Growing up the middle child in a family of seven kids (yup, that’s still my best deer-in-the-headlights impersonation at age six mos.), life wasn’t exactly a bed of roses. Hand-me-downs were the norm in the rough and tumble days of a five-year old who, early on, showed an affinity for things pretty and soft. If I had asked my mother for a 300 thread count pink bedding set for Christmas, the answer would’ve been a resounding “No!” Never mind that it was the sixties, and thread counts hadn’t yet entered the general lexicon. Even so, I remember many cozy, rainy, lazy days feeling safe and warm while snuggling in bed with a good mystery book. I wouldn’t trade those childhood memories for anything.
