Ryan crib bedding set

The Ryan crib bedding set is at once modern and vintage.

When you first look at the Ryan crib bedding set, you notice the color scheme and the patterns. This is not a bedding set that everyone is going to love. It’s more like one of those “love it or completely hate it” deals. If you haven’t seen it yet, give it a look over to determine whether you are a lover or hater of the Ryan set.

The Color Scheme

This is one of the more unusual features of the Ryan infant bedding set. The color scheme includes a soft blue that is a bit brighter and deeper than the traditional soft blue you are used to seeing in boy’s crib bedding. This blue is actually an accent color that contrasts with the brown, foam green and creamy white shades used in the chosen patterned print.

Blue, brown, green and cream are rather unusual color options for a crib bedding set, but in many aspects it works. It makes the Ryan set completely unique from other sets on the market and offers a more vintage appeal that you won’t get with many other crib bedding sets.

It is the unusual flair and fun color contrasts that make the Ryan set so endearing to many parents. Of course, it won’t be something everyone loves so you have to check it out for yourself to see what you think.

closeup of ryan crib bedding setThe Patterns

The solid blue fabric mentioned above is an accent to the Moroccan-inspired patterned fabric used throughout most of the bedding pieces. Some pieces have small traces of blue to bring it all together as a set, but the patterned fabric is what steals the attention when you first look at the Ryan crib bedding set.

The chosen patterns are based on elaborate shapes with a touch of floral print. Geometric shapes are used in a very playful manner but they take on the appearance of flowers without the soft lines and curves traditionally associated with floral prints.

The patterns are also designed to contrast with one another and against the solid blue in a very masculine, dominant manner. This is appealing for a little boy’s room, but may work with the right coordinating decorations for a little girl. The brown bows that hang outside the crib give it a touch of the feminine if needed.

The Complete Bedding Set

The complete Ryan baby nursery bedding comes with the bumper set, fitted crib sheet, crib skirt, and coordinating blanket. There are two other blankets that can be purchased to help decorate the room or coordinate another bed in the room with the Ryan crib set.

You need every piece of the Ryan crib bedding set to pull off this look. Each piece has its own contrasting colors and prints and together they make a dazzling display in the nursery. The colors chosen may not be the most traditional colors ever, but they are rather easy to accessorize. You can easily find throw pillows, window treatments and wall decorations in brown and cream or you may choose to pull out the foam green or blue touches by adding more of those colors around the room.

Creating Your Own Montessori Nursery

A Montessori nursery allows greater independence and natural learning for a child. Design the room in four specific areas intended for four basic needs.

Maria Montessori

Dr. Maria Montessori is one child development psychologist that will forever be remembered in history. She turned the way most modern parents raise their babies upside down when she released her studies, theories and beliefs on how children naturally care for and conduct themselves when adults do not interfere.

Of course, Dr. Montessori and all of her followers recognize that parents play a very important role in the development and growth of a child, but they also recognize that children should be given more freedoms to learn from their natural surroundings and do some things for themselves. This actually works out well for parents, since following Montessori learning strategies can take a bit of the stress off of new parents.

There are many Montessori preschools popping up around the world, but parents can also set up this environment in their own homes by creating a Montessori nursery. Do some research into the theories and beliefs of Dr. Maria Montessori and you may want to create this environment in your own home. If so, split the room up into four main areas:

The Sleeping Area

Every new parent thinks of safety and picks out appealing bedding sets when they design and decorate their nursery, but the sleeping area in a Montessori nursery is a bit different. For starters, you can save some money by not purchasing a crib. A Montessori style bed will consist of a mattress or perhaps a baby moses basket sitting directly on the floor.

Not only does this arrangement eliminate the worries of the child climbing out or falling over the railing of a crib, but it allows the child to climb out of bed or move around on their own to explore their natural environment.

Many Montessori parents find they get more sleep because their babies will explore for awhile then naturally fall back to sleep! Just make certain the flooring and all items sitting around the sleeping area are completely safe for the age of your baby.

The Care Area

This is where basic care is provided to the baby, including diaper changes and dressing. This area doesn’t have to be large, but make sure supplies are kept to what will be needed and that they are placed out of reach of the child at all times.

The Feeding Area

A rocking chair or glider and a small table with a soft glowing light is adequate for this small area. This is where parents can bond with a child while taking care of their natural need to be nourished with food and love.

The Free Movement Area

This is the most critical element of a Montessori nursery. This area will not have an overflowing toy box, but will have soft flooring that is safe and comfortable for the baby along with toys that can be operated without adult help. Everything in this area is designed to encourage play so that the child naturally grows and learns from their surroundings.

Think of bright colors, black and white shadows, and a variety of shapes and angles. The wall can be covered with pictures of animals or letters and numbers. A variety of images and even objects on the walls can be used for children at different stages of development.

All of these things should change as the baby grows and masters new skills and concepts.

Toy Storage Bins Save the Day

Toy storage bins make tidying up a breeze in kids rooms. This fun system of organizing clutter allows items to be readily found.

  • Share/Bookmark

When it comes to storing toys in a kid’s room, play room, or other areas of the home, you need something that fits a variety of needs:

  1. It must look neat and organized.
  2. It must not present any safety hazards for children.
  3. It must be easy for children to reach on their own.
  4. It must be reasonably sized to hold a lot of toys, but not so oversized it takes up a ton of room.

There are lots of different toy storage options today, but toy storage bins are what save the day for most parents. They pass the test on all four of these points and can be found at very affordable prices so you don’t have to break the bank if you need more than one for different rooms of the house.

Storage Bin Appearance

Toy storage bins can be found in a variety of different styles. Some are wooden shelves with multi-colored bins sitting at an angle so the openings point out toward the children. These are great products for smaller children because the colors are fun and naturally attract children.
kids toy storage bins You can also place different toys in different colored bins, helping small children remember what goes where. As long as you have enough bins to accommodate all of the toys being stored, it looks very neat and organized rather than the chaotic mess that can become of toy boxes and other storage solutions.

Storage Bin Safety

Wooden toy boxes have hinges and heavy doors that can pinch and slam down on children’s fingers, and small children can topple over into larger sized boxes, but you won’t have to worry about any of that with kids storage bins. Even if a smaller child pulls a bin over it is not heavy enough to hurt them, and the corners are all rounded to ensure safety if a child runs into them.

If you place lighter weight toys such as hot wheels or Barbies in the top bins and heavier toys in the bins down by the floor, you never have to worry about a small children being harmed by a bin tumbling down on their heads.

Toy storage bins also have no hinges or lids so there is no way for little fingers to be pinched or smashed.

Reaching Kids Storage Bins

Most storage bin units designed for toy storage have two levels of bins, both of reasonable height for small children to reach into them. You can get different designs and some may be taller, so make sure your little ones will not have problems reaching the toys they love most. Of course, if there are toys that you don’t want them to play with unsupervised, you can place those in a higher bin if your system has one higher up.

Storage Bin Sizes

Furnishings holding the storage bins tend to be rather compact. They are typically longer than they are wide or tall. Make sure to measure the area you would like to keep the toys and find something that will fit well into that space.

If you have a lot of toys that need storage, you may want to put your kids storage bins in two or three different areas of the room. The storage bins can almost become a decorative feature when the bin colors are chosen well.

China Doll Toile Canopy Bedding Offers Delicate Beauty for Every Growing Girl

If you like fine details and all things delicate and elegant, you will fall head over heels in love with the China Doll canopy bedding set.

China Doll Toile crib canopy bedding

The China Doll Toile crib canopy bedding is simple yet elegant.

The China Doll Toile crib canopy bedding by Glenna Jean is infant bedding at its best. From the delicate pattern and the small embroidered details to the unusual color combination that makes all the fine details stand out, this is one of the most beautiful crib bedding sets we have ever come across.

This may not be the canopy bedding set for those who are working on a very tight budget, but it is definitely well worth every dime because of the quality and beauty offered.

The Pattern

The foundation pattern presented on the sheets and coordinating items is rather simple. It is a print featuring trees, butterflies, and Chinese pagodas. The illustrated and whimsical figures in black ink are surrounded by delicate embroidered flowers.

On its own, this background pattern would be nothing spectacular since it is so basic. Yet, when you add it with the embroidered flowers and the unique color combination, it comes out to be one of the most beautiful things you have ever laid eyes on.

The Colors

China Doll Toile canopy bedding fabric detail
The background pattern described above is done in black with a bare white background. Then there are bright pink accents added which makes a beautiful combination. The small embroidered flowers add delicate splashes of pink throughout the entire fabric and the pink panels of fabric stand out like the sun in the sky on a summer day.

The pink is well placed, such as thin lines of pink along the edges of the bumper with a solid pink fabric on the backside of the bumper. The pink just illuminates the room and pops from the black and white print in a beautiful eye-catching manner.

The Style

The style of this canopy bedding is nothing short of elegant. This is the infant bedding set you put in the room of a little princess who is ready to be spoiled rotten. It is rather easy to coordinate in other decorative elements since the color scheme is so simple and many little girl-friendly elements are present in the printed pattern. Bright pink butterflies hanging on the walls or over the crib on a mobile would be a beautiful touch. Since the pink is so bold, you could add other bright colors in select areas of the room to add more contrast.

What’s Included?

The China Doll Toile crib canopy bedding set comes with the sheet, bumper set, and a skirt for the crib or toddler bed. The coordinating canopy and quilt can be purchased separately to complete the look.

Again, this is not the easiest infant bedding set to bring home on a budget but it is one of those sets that many parents will simply want at all costs. The bold color will look gorgeous in any little girl’s room and the elegant, classy effect is far better than many of the infant bedding themes that you see on the market today.

This is the canopy bedding set for little ones who will have it all in life. Why not get her started right with this beautiful and comfortable baby crib bedding set for girls?

Tips for Choosing Wonderful Crib Bedding Sets

Crib bedding sets are often the focal point of any baby’s room, pulling together all components of baby nursery decor, from wall colors to pillow accents.

  • Share/Bookmark
Josie infant bedding set

This Josie infant bedding set is easy on the eyes, and fills the baby's room with a burst of spring year-round.

Studies have shown that new babies respond very well to high contrast colors like red, black and white. These colors aren’t always at the top of the list when decorating a baby’s nursery, though. Most new parents lean toward softer pastels when shopping for items like lamps, furniture, curtains, and other baby nursery decor. But what stands out the most and ties the whole room together are crib bedding sets.

Colors and Theme

Parents will typically choose a particular color scheme or a character theme for a new baby’s room. Often this is done by choosing the crib bedding set first and then decorating to compliment it. Bear in mind that your goal is to choose colors that are calming, like soft blues, greens, pinks and peaches. Bright colors like yellows and reds are stimulating to the senses and might keep the baby awake. Busy themes may have the same effect. Try to look for designs that look somewhat blended rather than ones that jump out at you. If you look at a crib bedding set and it makes you feel calm and serene, it will likely make the baby feel that way, too.

Fabric

The fabric of the infant bedding set you choose is very important. Choose a fabric that is comfortable for the baby yet durable, stain resistant, and flame retardant. Cotton feels great but isn’t very stain resistant, and your infant’s bedding will get dirty when baby is sick or when bottles or diapers leak. You will find that your newborn loves to touch satiny fabrics, but satin or polyester bedding is slippery and gets too warm. These are neither safe nor comfortable through the night. A nice cotton/poly blend is comfortable and safe, as well as stain resistant and will hold up through plenty of washings.

Cars and Trucks crib bedding sets

This playful Cars and Trucks crib bedding set is a popular choice for little boys.

Proper Fit

While all crib mattresses are the same size, not all crib bedding is made to fit them just right. Make sure to find a crib bedding set that has a good fitted bottom sheet. Some are made with tethers that help to hold down the corners of the sheet. If you can’t find them, you can add tethers by sewing a piece of elastic across the four corners of the sheet bottom. You don’t want the under sheet to pop out during the night because it can bunch up around the baby’s face and cause difficulty breathing. With or without tethers, the bottom sheet should fit perfectly over the mattress so that it won’t wrinkle or bunch up as the baby tosses and turns. This will make baby uncomfortable and may cause restless sleep.

How Many?

You need to have enough bedding to be able to change it out several times a week when it gets soiled. Most parents like to have three to four sets, but that can get expensive. Find one great crib bedding set and then purchase separate bedding pieces like top and bottom sheets, and lightweight blankets in solid colors that match the set. This way you will always have the right look when you make up the crib with the comforter and pillows.

How Much?

A crib bedding set can cost as little as $50, or set you back a few hundred, depending on the quality and brand of the set as well as the number of pieces it contains and where you purchase it. You should set a budget for the nursery as a whole, and then break the budget down into pieces. The furniture, of course, will be the biggest cost, about 70 to 80 percent of your budget. The crib bedding set will be the second costliest chunk. You should allow about 10 percent of your total nursery budget for the bedding. The remaining balance can be used to decorate the room to stay in theme with the baby nursery bedding you choose.

Remember, initially you are buying the infant bedding set for you to enjoy, not the baby. Your infant won’t really care what it looks like as long as it provides a comfortable place to sleep. But it won’t be long before the newborn is a toddler and toddlers do have very distinct likes and dislikes. So go ahead and buy crib bedding sets that strike your fancy, but also ones that your baby will grow to love, too.

Selecting Baby Crib Mattresses – Tips for Every Parent-to-Be

Every infant deserves a baby crib mattress that supports his body and keeps him swaddled in soft comfort, so choose your baby mattress with care.

  • Share/Bookmark
baby sleeping on baby crib mattress

Baby crib mattresses must fit snugly into the crib.

Choosing baby crib mattresses needs as much care as selecting your own mattress. When you lay your little one down, you want him to feel supported yet cradled in soft, comforting material. You want him to be safe and secure so you have peace of mind when you shut your own eyes. After all, his comfort level may determine how many hours of sleep you get at night.

To ensure that you get as many hours of restful sleep as possible and that your baby is safe and comfortable when resting on his new crib mattress, use these tips to help you select the best baby crib mattress.

Crib Style

Many parents-to-be think a baby mattress is just a baby mattress, but this is entirely untrue. Look at different mattresses for their differences and you will find quite a few. One of the more important differences in style is the shape of the corners. A baby mattress with square corners will fit into the corners of the crib more securely while a mattress with rounded corners will leave a small gap.

The gap caused by rounded corners is usually very minor and in many cases will be covered with the bumpers if you use them in your crib. Yet, most parents today prefer to go with square or pointed corners that fit securely into the corners of the crib.

Crib Material

This is where you find the biggest differences between crib mattresses. Just as you can find a variety of materials inside a mattress for your own bed, you can now find a variety of different materials being used inside cribs.

Your main choices are going to be memory, latex foam mattresses or coil mattresses. Some baby crib mattresses present different materials on each side of the mattress so you can have a very firm mattress while your baby is an infant, then flip it over to something softer once they are ready for a toddler bed. The choice between foam and coil comes down to your own preferences.

Mattress Firmness

It is essential that your crib mattress be very firm. There can be layers of foam and even mattress toppers to add comfort, but infants need a very firm surface to ensure they are supported and are not at any danger of SIDS.

Check the Return Policy

If you order your baby mattress online or from a store that you aren’t familiar with, make sure to ask about the return policy prior to purchasing. In most cases there will be no problems with a crib mattress, but since there are different styles and sizes of cribs, you will need to make sure it fits securely once it arrives in your home. If there is too much space in the corners or around the edges, you will need to return it for another baby mattress.

There should never be a gap between the baby mattress and the crib, so set the mattress into the crib and try to press your fingers in between. You shouldn’t be able to fit more than a single finger at any point. If you can fit two fingers or more, return the mattress.

Think of your baby’s comfort and safety as you select baby crib mattresses. It will win you peace of mind and perhaps a couple extra hours of rest.

How a Baby Moses Basket can Help Busy Moms on-the-Go

For active parents who are still weighing the benefits of owning a baby moses basket, here are five fun, practical and handy uses that will help to decide.

  • Share/Bookmark
newborn napping in a baby moses basket

Here is a newborn napping in a baby moses basket. Isn't he just adorable?

A baby moses basket is practical, charming and traditional, a nice combination that appeals to some parents, while others like them because of the fewer dangers they present compared to other types of baby bedding. Whether you decidedly want one or are still trying to assess its usefulness, the following ideas will show you how a moses basket can be the key to remaining active with a wee one in tow.

#1: Take baby on a picnic.

Picnics and other outdoor activities are some of the funnest parts of spring and summer, but they can also be the types of events new parents miss out on. Why? It can be tricky taking a small child out for extended periods when the baby may not be comfortable in a stroller, forcing parents to carry a fussing baby.

When you have a baby moses basket with cozy basket bedding, you may discover that the baby will be more relaxed, and so will you. Place the basket in the shade under a tree, or on a steady table next to you. This will allow your hands free to eat, drink, and enjoy the party. The child will be a lot more content in the basket than in a stroller, and may remain quiet and comfortable throughout the day.

#2: Reach your baby for night feedings without having to rise out of bed.

Many nursing moms like to keep the baby close at hand to avoid having to get up. A baby moses basket makes this convenient not only for midnight or dawn feedings but also for the early days of motherhood when your body is still recovering from delivery, and you want to rest in bed longer with the baby nearby.

To get your strength back up after having a baby, you’ll need to take it easy. The right basket bedding will give your baby a cozy place to doze off, allowing you to get more rest also.

#3: Get the house clean without trusting a monitor.

Many parents are anxious about dusting the house with the infant sleeping in another room, even with the assistance of a baby monitor. Some parents worry so much that they spend more time peeking into the room than they do tidying up.

Try putting the infant to sleep in a moses basket that can be moved from room to room. Then you can be sure the baby is safe nearby, allowing you to concentrate on your household chores.

#4: Permit others to have a peek at the infant without disturbing the baby’s sleep.

It may not be long after your arrival from the hospital that you will hear little taps at the door. Those who know and love you will be so excited to see the newborn. They may show up with food and other goodies to ease your life as a new parent, but you know they will also want a peek at the new baby. If your baby is in a moses basket, then you have no worries. It allows visitors to have a look without fear of waking the baby.

A moses basket will enable them to see the little bambino up close while avoiding physical contact. If you are uneasy about germs being transferred by touch to the infant, then this will minimize that possibility.

#5: Baskets make great backdrops for the cutest baby photos you will adore forever.

Nothing is more precious than seeing a small baby napping in a basket or beaming up from one. Take lots of photos. Children grow quickly so you need to capture this fleeting moment, one that you will no doubt look back upon wistfully, and with joy and fondness.

The Josie Crib Bedding Set’s Modern Twist on Spring

Contrasting stripes and graphic, floral patterns give the Josie crib bedding set by Glenna Jean a touch of modernity, and welcomes spring year-round.

  • Share/Bookmark

Josie crib bedding set

The Josie crib bedding set by Glenna Jean is a burst of spring.

Stripes and flowers. Green and pink. The Josie crib bedding set is perfectly tailored to the little princess who is going to have everything. This is the bedding décor for little angels who deserve the softest fabrics, the most beautiful prints, and of course the most stylish accessories to be found anywhere.

Take the hanging diaper bag which can be purchased as a separate coordinating option. Half of the bag is a creamy white with a beautiful flower print while the other half is in direct contrast with a striped pattern making use of the same colors but using solid stripes of varying widths. The result is a super stylish diaper bag that grabs attention while still looking like something suited for a little princess.

Every piece of the Josie crib set follows that lead. The bumpers and bedskirt sport the eye-grabbing striped pattern while the quilt and sheets pull in the same colors but with the delicate flower pattern.

It is all topped off with the subtle touches. Grosgrain ribbon ties into delicate little bows. Taupe cording traces the edges of the bumpers and quilt. Everywhere you turn the adorable contrasting prints are topped off with small details perfect for any little princess.

The pinks are more coral than neon and the green is a soft sage, and it is all backed by a creamy off-white that blends it all together. You can’t get anymore delicate in color selection and you can’t get anymore innovative than the choice of contrasting designs.

Besides the four coordinating pieces that come in the Josie crib set, you can purchase accessories to give your little princess the complete look. The musical mobile sends dancing bears spiraling from above the crib, and the flower print valances coordinate the crib so it becomes the centerpiece of the room. With the Josie crib bedding set, you can bring a little bit of spring into your baby’s room year-round.

How to Childproof Your Nursery Window

When designing window treatments for your nursery, think of safety first. Here are some practical tips that will take the worry away from possible dangers.

  • Share/Bookmark
Baby's Room

Position the crib away from nursery windows, especially those that have dangling cords. Even drapes pose a possible hazard, including the example shown here.

The time to start thinking about your child’s safety around windows in the nursery is the moment you start designing and decorating. The crib needs to be placed as far away from the window as possible and the type of window coverings used need to be thought out carefully.

Even if the crib is placed in a corner on the opposite end of the nursery, you have to be very cautious about any window coverings that have dangling rope cords. Children of all ages can get their necks caught in these cords and strangle themselves to death. That’s not the image you want to think about when designing your nursery, but it is something you have to consider for the safety of your child.

Make sure cords are completely secured high toward the top of the window. If you’re looking to make a new purchase, consider the latest window cover offerings that use twirl wands, or coverings that can be operated by one touch or remote control.

You also want to check the type of glass that is in the window. If it is untempered, it will shatter when broken which presents a big danger to a baby as well as a growing toddler. Change the window to tempered glass or have Plexiglas installed around the lower portion of the window.

If you decide to get new windows, spring for a design that only opens from the top. This will present less likelihood of a toddler crawling out if you open the window for fresh air. If using older windows that do open from the bottom, insert something that stops the window from opening more than a small gap.

There is a lot to think about when it comes to covering the windows in the baby’s nursery. Don’t throw up long drapes and assume the baby is protected from the glass. Out of sight does not equal peace of mind in this case.
